Matt Barrett

Matt Barrett serves as Director of the Office of Project Management at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs, where he leads the development and implementation of the university’s Project Management Office (PMO) within the Division of Strategic Initiatives and Operations. In this role, he works across the university to strengthen project governance and portfolio management, align major initiatives with institutional priorities, and build project management practices that support transparency, collaboration, and effective execution. 

Barrett brings more than 20 years of leadership experience spanning project management, strategic planning, organizational excellence, process improvement, data and performance management, and organizational operations. Prior to returning to UCCS, he served in a senior data and performance leadership role for a large public school district, where he led enterprise initiatives in performance excellence and developed organization-wide performance measures and dashboards, and worked across departments to improve processes and outcomes. His previous experience also includes executive leadership in a  regional nonprofit organization, providing strategic and operational consulting to businesses, and serving in executive leadership roles in the private sector. 

Barrett’s return to UCCS continues a longstanding connection to the university. Earlier in his career, he served as Executive Director of the UCCS Small Business Development Center, where he led programs supporting entrepreneurs and small businesses throughout the region and developed partnerships across the university and the Colorado Springs community. Barrett holds a Master of Business Administration from Iowa State University and a Bachelor of Science in Business-Psychology from Nebraska Wesleyan University. He is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and holds a Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt.
