2030 Strategic Plan

The University of Colorado Colorado Springs 2030 Strategic Plan lays out a vision for the future of our university that builds on our core mission: to provide high-quality, accessible education; to advance knowledge; integrate student learning with the spirit of discovery; and to serve our community. These goals form our shared journey—our climb toward the summit of the Success 2030 plan.

AI Governance and Innovation

The AI Governance and Innovation Initiative brings together campus leaders, faculty, and staff through the AI Steering Committee and AI Working Group to guide the responsible use of artificial intelligence at UCCS. The initiative focuses on developing recommendations, policies, and best practices related to AI governance, privacy, security, risk management, platform integration, and strategic planning. By supporting training, awareness, and innovation pilots, the project helps position UCCS to leverage emerging technologies while ensuring their use aligns with institutional values, academic excellence, and student success.

Differentiator Project

The Differentiator Project represented a collaborative, university-wide effort to define and articulate the qualities that make UCCS distinctive within the higher education landscape. Designed to strengthen institutional positioning and guide future decision-making, the initiative brought together faculty, staff, students, alumni, and community partners through a process grounded in research, engagement, transparency, and strategic alignment. Key accomplishments include establishing cross-functional working groups, developing a shared assessment framework, identifying success metrics, and creating an initial plan to measure the project’s impact on students, faculty and staff, and the broader community.

Federal Updates

CU Federal Relations is working to analyze the potential impacts of the current federal transition, recent executive actions, and their ongoing implementation on the university’s mission and the people who work and learn on our campuses. We are working closely with the President and the Chancellors and encourage you to work through your campus leadership with questions. Updates can be found here and on the CU Government Relations news page. See the Federal Transition Team that is helping to ensure there are resources and information available to the UCCS community.

HLC Accreditation

The HLC Accreditation Project is a university-wide effort led in partnership with the Provost's Office to coordinate and oversee the processes necessary for successful accreditation through the Higher Learning Commission. The project brings together faculty, staff, and campus leaders to align accreditation activities, manage critical deliverables, track progress toward established milestones, and prepare the institution for the comprehensive review and site visit. The ultimate outcome is the successful reaffirmation of accreditation through a clear demonstration of institutional effectiveness, continuous improvement, and compliance with HLC standards.

Innovative Economic Prosperity Designation

The University is participating in the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) Innovation & Economic Prosperity (IEP) Program, a national initiative that helps universities assess, strengthen, and showcase their economic and community impact. Through a comprehensive self-assessment and engagement with campus and community partners, we will pursue the IEP Designation in 2027, highlighting its commitment to regional economic development and opportunity. The IEP Designation will also lay the foundation for UCCS's future pursuit of the Carnegie Community Engagement Classification, further advancing the university's commitment to community partnerships and public impact.

Marketing Collaboration

The Marketing Collaboration Project aligns stakeholders across the institution to leverage a $3 million CU Foundation investment in support of enrollment growth. The project coordinates strategic marketing and recruitment initiatives designed to improve prospect conversion, increase enrollment, and strengthen student retention across traditional, adult, and graduate populations. Efforts include foundation building, acceleration tactics, conversion optimization, and melt prevention strategies, with a focus on measurable outcomes and long-term enrollment success.

Space Force Feasibility

The Space Force Feasibility Project evaluates the viability of providing services to the United States Space Force on a fee-for-service basis. The project serves as a centralized effort to align stakeholders, coordinate analyses, and manage planning activities related to potential service offerings. Areas of evaluation include operational requirements, resource capacity, financial considerations, legal and contractual implications, and strategic alignment with institutional priorities. The project will culminate in a recommendation regarding the feasibility, risks, benefits, and implementation considerations associated with pursuing a partnership with the Space Force.

Strategic Pillars

To increase visibility and transparency, the Strategic Pillars Action website was developed, an interactive platform showcasing strategic work occurring across colleges and divisions. During its first year, 100 initiatives were added and aligned to the Strategic Pillars and strategic plan goals. The framework established a way for communicating progress, increasing awareness of institutional priorities, and strengthening connections between individual contributions and the university's long-term strategic goals.
